<ABOUT US - Donor Profile
The Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI) is a long-term, science-based effort to assess, conserve and enhance fish and wildlife habitats while facilitating responsible development across southwest Wyoming. The partnership formally includes local, state and federal agencies, with support provided by various other individuals and organizations. WLCI relies upon local partners, such as the Wyoming Land Trust, to help meet its goals and objectives. These local partnerships provide the foundation for the WLCI program by helping with project development, sharing data and information, and identifying local issues and interests.
Southwest Wyoming’s vast open spaces support energy and industrial development, important livestock industry and provide essential habitats and migratory corridors for wildlife. The combination of energy and industrial development as well as, residential and other human-generated activities is occurring in wildlife habitat areas. The WLCI and partners address threats to these resource values by focusing on key landscape issues. The partnerships represented by the WLCI are most effective when they include the individuals and groups who live and work in the area.
The greatest value of wildlife conservation is achieved when wildlife enhancement is conducted at a landscape scale. Access to a variety of habitat types and seasonal ranges within a landscape is essential for wildlife to find food, shelter, and raise their young. Providing for and maintaining wildlife migration corridors and key habitats is one of the objectives of WLCI. To be successful in meeting objectives, landscape scale conservation needs to involve collaboration with all state, federal, and private landowners. Through their progressive efforts, Wildlife-friendly Fencing Initiative and Conservation Easements, the Wyoming Land Trust has helped WLCI achieve one of its priority objectives.
